Dr. Bud

"Lunar Eclipse"

Dr. Bud was the first rhythm guitar player for White Dog whose story is told in "Living In The Rock 'N' Roll Mystery," H. L. Goodall, Jr., Southern Illinois University Press. When we met in the late 80's, Dr. Bud was the Chair of the Organizational Communications Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. At the time of this session, Dr. Bud and his wife, Sandra were at Clemson with their son, Nick. Dr. Bud was in town and dropped by the apartment I shared with Dave Tipps, (a.k.a. Charlie Ross, WQLT, Florence, Alabama) during a time when I was again, a Realtor, and Dave was Program Director at WBHP, Huntsville.

Dr. Bud and his colleague, Eric M. Eisenberg, wrote the lyrics to "Lunar Eclipse" and called it a Novel In Sudden Fiction. At the session, Dr. Bud, Dave, and Ben Poole cheered me on as I programmed and recorded this song. They really "produced" it, because no part remained they didn't approve. But, because we belevied it was "cool" to not really hear the vocal, you can't. So, I've included the lyrics. They paint a vivid picture.

Dr. Bud does a great job vocally as the "Detective Noir." DR. BUD IN DA HOUSE!

Lunar Eclipse

To toy with a stranger
Under the influence of a full moon,
Huh, Huh, that's madness.

As her car dragged the hot blacktop for the last time
I watched the sun set over the end of the block
With the moon already full and wide
At the other end of the street.
Then, just as quickly, the light began to fade...

But now, I realize it wasn't sunlight
But moonlight that was retreating
Just as the sun disappeared.

The next morning I found a single strand of her hair in my bed.
I picked it up, I could still smell her
Although that could have been my imagination.

I ran my finger along that strand of hair anyway
And remembered how it felt
To run my fingers across her skin.
Then I kissed it
And remembered how her full lips felt against mine.

She didn't cry that day,
I smiled.
I knew she'd left me.

So I tied that strand of hair
In a knot around my index finger.
Later, I lost it
Somewhere.

Her name was Laura
These days, I just call her
Lunar Eclipse.
