Dan Mashburn was playing bass guitar in professional settings by the time he was 12 years old. In high school, Dan would amaze me with his musical comprehension and ability to play most any song on any instrument; and do it amazingly well. About the time I picked up the guitar, Dan was there to lead me down the musician's path and in no time at all, we had a little band and I was playing Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver" and thinking I was pretty cool. Dan invited me out to San Antonio during the monsoons of '92 and I was introduced to his golden-throated bride, Kim. During the chit-chat and catching-up, Kim asked if I had any songs that would be good for her to record. Well, I had just received an award from Billboard magazine for a song I had written titled, "Nobody's Woman" but felt it wouldn't really jive with what Kim was trying to do. So we decided to write a song. "Misguided Justice"
flowed from the pen much easier than any other song. After deciding Kim
needed a "Statement" song like Pat
Benetar's "Hell Is For Children," I began humming
a guitar hook I'd been working on and "Misguided Justice" fit
as the lyric. We took a break for me to run to the convenience store with
the hook spinning around and around in my head. I found a piece of paper
and had most of these lyrics down by the time I returned to the apartment.
The lyrics are OK, but the vocal is dynamite! Misguided Justice Just another heartbreak in
the city, She's sitting head in hands
this could be Harlem CHORUS: Angelic faces wear the scars
of anger. CHORUS: Misguided justice.
